Ok, I know this site is about plunge routers, but the Porter-Cable 694VK 1-3/4 HP Variable Speed Router Kit is one bad ass setup that I felt compelled to write here about. It offers plunge router and fixed-base router capabilities in one box. The 694VK comes with a 1 3/4 HP, variable speed router, and two bases. The first is one of Porter Cable’s best fixed router bases and the 2nd is a smooth, locking lever, plunge base that allows you to make accurate plunge routs every time. The variable speed control on this bad boy is pretty nice too, allowing you to adjust between 10,000 and 27,000 RPM.
